I consider turning on the lights
but I don’t know what for
my computer doesn’t need them
and when I’m looking at the screen or keyboard
neither do I
when I look elsewhere
darkness improves it
I joke that after forty-seven years as a programmer
working in the dark is normal
truth is
I probably would have learned to program
just to work in the dark
it was so natural to me
then and now
