189.365 - a sleight of wind

it was one of those afternoons
a flurry of seagulls
ran into a gust of wind and scattered
mothers below complained
about the feathers and sand
while little kids danced for joy
buckets and shovels in hand
and teenagers stole kisses
behind the mothers’ backs
a surfboarder swore
that same wind blew him off his board
and nobody argued
they were too busy watching
the sailboaters untangle
so maybe that’s why nobody noticed
the god rise from the sand
snatch the girl in the pink bikini
and sink back into the sand
with her kicking and screaming
and the surf smooth away any evidence
and not even her mother noticed her absence
until hours later when the sun set
and she was trying to gather her flock
and could’ve used some assistance
but by then the girl
had other interests
