and he made people laugh
he made people feel safe
people admired his humor
his singing
his joy in living
I didn't know him
but I went to a memorial
so many friends of his
were friends of mine
I listened to their stories
heard their loss and admiration
their celebration
the community he'd built
and knew I had done right to go
and say with them
there was a man
