117.365 - honoring

it was earlier than early
the day had barely begun
the last of the midnight bell strokes
still tingled the ears
and yet it was late too
anyone could have told her
it was too late for her to be out
especially dressed like that
a young girl in a young girl’s clothes
disguised by a raincoat
on a night which had had no rain
but she was looking for a young man
and she found him and led him into an alley
and when he tried to open her coat
she drove not one but two daggers
under his ribs
into his groin
and into the hollows of his collarbones
and as he lay bleeding
protesting his innocence
she bent down near him to say
“my big sister killed herself over you
or so she said
you should have honored her
to prevent her suicide
but certainly after
you didn’t
so I’ll do it for you”
she slit his throat to make sure
then ditched the raincoat
and walked home safely
still angry
the bells rang again
