111.365 - through a glass darkly

the stars
pop into sharpness
through a telescope
but sharpness no bigger than outside
seen without instrument
the space between them magnifies though
sometimes you can barely get two stars into one field of vision
and are amazed that even with that difference
nothing
so nothing lies between them
half a century ago
the boy who would be me
thought that was the world
two bodies with nothing between
some times no distance either
more often miles
or light years
now of course we know
or think we know
about dark matter
dark energy
the stuff of stealth
that maybe fills our galaxies
and the vasts in between
that boy predated those
and tried to understand humans
from what astronomy he knew
he had so very much to learn
