084.365 - dance

when you knew me/I had no art
                                             -Diane Wakoski

I walked on potato feet
disguised by cowboy boots
I had not learned the dance of words
or had not learned to dance them publicly
thought dance was ballet not samba
and had not learned it is sometimes
torn from the heart like a dragon's call
that loud challenge from the skies
seeking the source of flame
or a mate
