we are our own worst enemies
with complete good will and good intentions
we call the folks in charge
and rat out the rebels
not to get rid of them
but “to encourage dialog”
whenever did folks in charge
want to talk to the opposition
especially if they could just fire them?
or throw them out windows?
or drop them off roofs?
no, no, it comes back again to us
believing so hard in our vision
a world in shades of rose
that we collaborate willingly
we stake the scapegoats out
pat their heads, brush their coats
and promise them a fair shake tomorrow
if they just get through the night
next morning we blame the goats
children!
the folks in charge are not your friends!
don’t never noways tell them nuthin
your words will be used against you
the revolution will not come in easy steps
of compromise and mitigation
look at paintings from revolutions
take your glasses off, that red is blood!
if you want change, expect the folks in charge
to shoot at you, run tanks over you
then they will profess willingness to talk
but just suppose…
it happens now and then
a revolution happens, little or large
and once the changers are in charge
we cheer and celebrate and predict
but the changers won’t want to hear about any more change
the same rules will still apply
the folks in charge are not your friends
