051.365 - romance

I have danced with you in a swamp
chased you across a mire
followed you through a slough
and those when we were together
I have staggered across a desert
your mirage flitting before me
I have swum
almost out of sight of the coast
thinking I heard you
I have trailed through forests
your scent leading me
ah woman!
let me say I think you
were never unkind
even destroying my dream of us
you tried smashing the egg at once
I was the one
who rebuilt the shell
tried to coax
the white and the yolk back inside
found a spoon small enough
and tried to unbail
found traces of you
in shuttered libraries
museum ruins
and houses burned out
you returned to a different world
like you said you would
while I
tried to unsplinter mine
