poem
I found
a heap of words
cast out
or dropped
piled
waiting
and made it
my task
to put them all
in order
as
this
a heap of words
cast out
or dropped
piled
waiting
and made it
my task
to put them all
in order
as
this

how to live
Found a wonderful quotation from G.K. Chesterton: "We need so to view the world as to combine an idea of wonder and an idea of welcome."
Modifying that for empowerment (instead of necessity): live so you are open to wonder and to a sense of welcome.
A sense of welcome! Can it be as simple as that? Live so we are open to it and it shows up?

the choice
the exact choice
Creeley might say
the nickel
with a three-legged buffalo
the flag
with fifty-three stars
the book
with no word left
unmisspelled
reveals

choice
Apparently I've chosen. This blog is about poetry, and in particular my poetry. Now to make it interesting and thoughtful and engaging.

path
under a New Mexico sky
fifty some years ago
a teenaged boy stared
at the North Star
I'd like to think he grinned
but he was awfully serious
and God was sometimes in his life
and sometimes not
not that night
he stared at the North Star
and tried to see a life
he'd want to live
he had rejected preachering
would not twist people so
and could not claim God's will
that was his father's fief
he stared at the North Star
and saw what he was good at
math and science
and saw a path, a way
"use my talents well," he said
and smiled, it was almost as good
as God's will in its way
it rang with fate and doom
he smiled and chose
and stepped into his Tao

homework
it was homework, see?
find an image
have it tell somethin' about your life
goddam
so I read Creeley and H.D.
like she told me
the teacher did
and still couldn't think of nuthin
then on my way to school
there it was
in the alley
a broken toilet
leaned against the dumpster
draining
